Facebook now lets advertisers use your picture

It seems that Facebook now lets advertisers use your picture without your permission - you have to opt out of Facebook being allowed to do this.

I wonder how this fits in with UK copyright and data protection laws - it would be interesting to see, I know I would be horrified if my picture was used on a dating site advert like the original posters friends picture was. Mind you, so many of the adverts on Facebook are misleading - £5,000 credit with no check, or just plain uninteresting that I for one ignore them all nowdays.
